Cause of Emergency Landing Still Under Investigation
An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Thursday morning due to a mechanical issue. No injuries were reported.
American Airlines Flight 1319, bound for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), departed RDU at 8:05 am. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot reported a mechanical issue and requested to return to RDU.
The plane landed safely back at RDU at 8:40 am. Passengers were deplaned and bused to the terminal.
Passengers Reported Hearing a Loud Noise
Passengers on the flight reported hearing a loud noise before the pilot announced the emergency landing.
"I heard a loud bang and then the plane started shaking," said passenger John Smith. "I was really scared."
"The pilot did a great job of keeping us calm and getting us back on the ground safely," said passenger Mary Jones.
American Airlines Investigating the Incident
American Airlines is investigating the incident. The airline has not yet released any information about the cause of the mechanical issue.
Passengers who were on the flight are being accommodated on other flights to DFW.
