The Boston Celtics opened their season with a hard-fought 102-99 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at the TD Garden.
Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 25 points, while Kyrie Irving added 22 points and 9 assists. LeBron James led the Cavaliers with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than 7 points at any point. The Celtics took a 5-point lead into the fourth quarter, but the Cavaliers quickly tied the game at 92-92 with about 5 minutes remaining.
The Celtics then went on a 6-0 run to take a 98-92 lead with less than 2 minutes to play. The Cavaliers got within 3 points, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
The Celtics outrebounded the Cavaliers 50-38 and shot 47.5% from the field compared to 41.8% for the Cavaliers.
The Celtics will now host the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, while the Cavaliers will travel to Toronto to face the Raptors.
