Bronson was born Charles Dennis Buchinsky on November 3, 1921, in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania. He was the eleventh of 15 children born to Lithuanian immigrants. However, Bronson's personal life was often troubled. He was arrested several times for assault and battery, and he was divorced from his wife in 1965.

In 1972, Bronson was arrested for the murder of his former business partner, Lou Perry. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Bronson has maintained his innocence, and he has appealed his conviction several times.

Bronson has been in prison for 50 years. He is now 88 years old and in poor health. He has appeared before the parole board 10 times, and he has been denied parole each time.
