AIM: A Relic of the Past Returns to Haunt the Present

AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) Phoenix Rises from the Ashes

The popular messaging application from the late 1990s and early 2000s is back, offering users a chance to relive the past or discover a new way to communicate.

AIM, which was first introduced in 1997, was one of the world's most popular instant messaging clients. The free software let users send and receive text messages, share files, and engage in group chats. In its heyday, AIM had over 100 million active users.

However, with the rise of social media and mobile messaging apps, AIM's popularity declined. In 2017, AOL announced that it would be discontinuing the service. But just when it seemed like AIM was destined to become a relic of the past, a group of former AOL employees decided to resurrect the service.

In 2019, AIM Phoenix was born. The new service is based on the original AIM codebase, but it has been updated with modern features and security measures. AIM Phoenix is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and it is free to use.
